At Rye Harbour Sailing Club we welcome all who sail cruisers.

Members boats range from around 20 ‘ up to 40’ , berthed by private arrangement in various yards , generally up river toward the town of Rye. Rye Harbour is a drying harbour and so all boats take the mud as the tide receeds with all types of keel represented. Boats generally float at around 11/2 hours before HW and  need to be back on berth around 11/2 hours after HW. Berths vary and boat owners  learn how long they have and can become quite adept at returning to their berth within minutes of the water receding around them . The river offers a safe and secure haven,  a base for day sailing on the tide or departing for coastal cruising or cross channel visits. 

Cruiser racing forms an important part of the yearly programme ,  it is definitely not compulsory but members are encouraged to join in because it can greatly enhance boat usage and enjoyment,  acknowledging that it is not for everyone.  In the last few years we have had just under 20 yachts registered for racing , which we dual score under the National Handicap for Cruisers (NHC)  system and IRC.  We run a full and varied cruiser racing programme including courses in the Bay around our own marks, raced on the tide  and longer races to a destination including cross channel .
